Wylie Band Directors

 

 

Mike Lunney –Director of Bands

          Graduate of Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas.  Twenty plus years of teaching experience in public schools. Mr. Lunney is the administrator of music, conducts the high school varsity band, marching band and assists with younger music students at Wylie Junior High School. Some of Mr. Lunney's accomplishments have included trips to the UIL State Marching Contest, Honor Band Finalist, selected as Jack Goodrich Teacher of the Year at Wylie HS, and numerous other awards.

 

 

Assistant Directors:

 

Jeannie Lunney

            Graduate of Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas with eighteen plus Years of teaching experience in public schools. Mrs. Lunney conducts the beginner band, Wylie Junior High School Band and assists with the high school band program. Under her direction the Wylie Junior High Honor Band has won 7 consecutive UIL sweepstakes. In addition her bands have earned numerous state awards in the outstanding performance series. She has been a member of teaching teams that have taken 3 bands to the UIL state marching contest and has earned a state championship in class AA. She has performed on Oboe with the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra on many occasions. Mrs. Lunney is the lead teacher for the entire "Puregold" feeder program.

 

Luke Millan

          Graduate of Wylie High School in 1999 and the University of North Texas in 2003.  During the 2004-2005 school year, under Mr. McMillan’s  direction, the high school jazz band placed first at the TCU Jazz Festival, and placed a record number of students in the all- region and all-area jazz bands.  His high school and junior high school bands were also successful, as the junior high symphonic band was awarded its first UIL sweepstakes award since the band’s inception.  Mr. McMillan assists with the marching band, the beginner band program and actively composes music for several area high school and college bands.

 

Guard Sponsor/Director – Anna Ray

            Graduate of Wylie High School in 2001 and Texas Tech University in the spring of 2006.   She received her bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Multidisciplinary Science Education.  Along with teaching color guard, she also teaches Algebra I and Algebra II at the High School.  
 
            Mrs. Ray started doing color guard as a sophomore at Wylie High School.  In college she was a member of the Goin' Band from Raiderland and the flag captain for the 2003 and 2004 marching seasons.   
 
            Mrs. Ray married Matthew Ray, a Wylie High School graduate, on January 1st, 2005.  Mrs. Ray is excited about the opportunity to fulfill her dream of working with the Wylie High School Pure Gold Marching Band.   

 

 

Contract Staff

            We are fortunate to have Anne Deavers and Jennifer Reece as contract labor staff members. These teachers instruct sectionals, small ensembles and teach lessons on a part time basis.   Ann Deavers has taught private lessons in the Wylie ISD for the past ten years. 

 

            Jennifer Reece is a Graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.  She has six plus years of experience teaching in public schools.  Mrs. Reece teaches sectionals, small ensembles and private flute lessons at the Junior High and High School campuses.

  

            The Wylie band staff utilizes a team teaching concept, which allows the staff to instruct at all levels and in all ensembles. Each director is assigned to "lead" teach a portion of the program or ensemble.
