Wylie High School “Pure Gold” Band

Handbook and Policy Manual

“Message to Parents”

We welcome you and you child to one of the most exciting and rewarding educational ventures our school has to offer - Band! We would like to take this opportunity to communicate with you, and to better acquaint you with some of the goals and expectations of our band program here at Wylie High School.

Recent statistics prove that young people who participate in music are among the academically strongest in their schools. They also have higher SAT and TAKS score averages than their fellow classmates. Their adult lives are filled with the successes which are a direct result of their band experience: self-discipline, group cooperation, high self-esteem, understanding teamwork, developing a sense of persistence, performance confidence and experiencing the joy of creating music. The “Pure Gold” band can provide these for your child.

As your child progresses in his/her understanding and command of their instrument, you will see how this same desire for excellence applies to every subject in school and serves as a training ground for dealing with many aspects of adult life. Always keep in mind that your encouraging words and attention to home practice are essential elements in your child’s success with music study.

With the cooperation of the parents and the school, we all become an effective educational team. We know that we can count on your cooperation. This is one of the reasons that we furnish each student a handbook, and the reason that we encourage you to read it.

With this handbook each student can get a good understanding of what is expected of them and what they can expect from our staff. The lines of communication are always open if you should have a problem or a question. We do encourage you to visit our rehearsals at any time and encourage you to see the band perform whenever possible. We also would like to encourage every parent to become a member of the Wylie Band Parents, and when possible, attend its meetings. Attending the meetings gives each parent an opportunity to get better acquainted with other parents and become familiar with the workings of the organization and the various services it performs. Equally important, it gives us an opportunity to meet and talk with you.

If you have any questions concerning our band program, please know that we are available to discuss them with you. Thank you for your time and personal attention.

                                                                        Sincerely,
