OPEN LETTER TO BAND MEMBERS

This band means a great deal to a lot of people who have been a part of it, either over the years or for just a short time. It is my sincere hope that you will find many long-lasting friendships, learn to respect those around you, and feel a tremendous sense of pride in a job well done through membership in the Wylie “Pure Gold” Band. I do not expect every person in the band to be a virtuoso musician or performer even though some of our band members do fall into that category. I do expect mature responsible attitudes and actions and lots of hard work from EVERYONE!

By accepting membership in the Wylie Band you agree to perform to the best of your abilities and work together with the band staff in making this year’s band the finest musical organization our combined efforts can produce.

Some of the qualities necessary to reach this goal are as follows:

The most important quality you can possess in life is vision. Vision is the ability to see the opportunities within your current circumstances. Most people think of “vision” as the ability to see the future. But in today’s rapidly changing world, vision is also the ability to accurately assess current changes and take advantage of them. Vision is being alert to opportunities. Do not be afraid to take advantage of these opportunities. Mark Twain once said dryly, “I knew a man who grabbed a cat by the tail and learned forty percent more about cats than the man who didn’t.” You might get some cuts and scars, but you will grow stronger in the process.

This handbook is designed to help you understand the concepts and policies of a very proud organization. This handbook will be a helpful guide for defining the boundaries that are important in keeping the “Pure Gold” an efficient ensemble. If utilized properly, responsible behavior, team work and good citizenship will be developed as each student experiences the world of music.

                                                                                    Have a great year,

                                                                                    Michael Lunney
